Here’s the grand finale that you’ve been waiting for! The last in our series of three extended hikes you can enjoy in Moran State Park. Keep reading to learn all about this Moran State Park Hike: Mount Constitution Loop!
Extended Mount Constitution Loop
approximately 14 miles
If you’re looking for a great all-day hike that takes you past all the major sites of Moran State Park, this is the one for you! Start at the trail-head across the street from the Cascade Lake Day Use Beach. Make your way through the forest, following the signs to Cascade Falls. The falls are magnificent all year round and offer prime photo opportunities!
From the falls, head uphill towards Mountain Lake. You’ll come to the Mountain Lake Dam, where you’ll take a left along the lakeshore. Cross the Mountain Lake Parking area and take the trail-head behind the picnic shelter. This is where you’ll really start to get your heart rate up and you make the climb towards the top of the Mountain. Enjoy the evergreen forests, lakes and vistas as you continue to climb uphill.
You’ll find the perfect spot for a break as you take in the breathtaking views from the top of Mount Constitution. Once you’re ready to continue, head down towards the parking area and across the road. Follow the signs downhill, towards Twin Lakes and then on to Mountain Lake. Take the left-hand trail at Mountain Lake to see the other side of this pristine lake. At the dam, simply make your way back towards Cascade Falls and your car.
If you’re looking for a good climb but fewer miles, you can easily shorten this hike to just under 7 miles by beginning and ending your hike at the Mountain Lake Trailhead.
