Camping can be lots of work. Good news – we’ve done lots of the heavy lifting!

We’ve outfitted Moran State Park campsites with real-deal yesteryear canvas wall tents perched on island-milled cedar plank platforms. Most important, we’ve tricked-out those tents with some comfortable furnishings. Be sure to check out our packing guide to learn more about the in-tent furniture and equipment included in your nightly rate.

Bring Your Own Bedding (and Bath supplies) in 2023

We’ll provide a mattress only, so it’s up to you to bring all of the bedding that you’ll need for a comfortable slumber. There’s lots of ways to bundle your bedding, and everyone’s taste is different. Have a look below for some B.Y.O.B. tips. Of course, you can mix and match or go a different direction. Most important – we want you to be super comfortable and enjoy lots of well-deserved rest!

Where to start?

The forecast. Punch the zip code “98279” in your phone’s weather app, or the online platform you like best, to get the overnight temperature forecast. Keep an eye on wind speeds, too. Canvas is breathable, so overnight wind speeds over 10 mph could reduce your in-tent air temp by a few degrees.

Bedding style #1: Camp-out

Bring sleeping bags and packable pillows.

Sleeping bags are time tested, usually lightweight, and super-packable, so there’s good reason for their popularity in the great outdoors. If you’re shopping for a new sleeping bag, be sure to check the shape of the bag, type of fill, the overall weight, and the temperature rating. Some manufacturers even share the packing size – which could be smaller than your water bottle!

Bedding style #2: Cushier Camp-out

If you’d prefer a more bed-like experience, it’s easy to kick your sleeping bag slumber up a notch.

Queen Beds

Pack two Full-size or Queen-size fleece blankets and real pillows. You can use one fleece blanket as your bottom sheet, one as your top sheet, and you can fully unzip a sleeping bag (or two!) to use as your comforters.

Twin Beds

Pack two Twin-size fleece blankets and real pillows. You can use one fleece blanket as your bottom sheet, one as your top sheet, and you can fully unzip a sleeping bag (or two!) to use as your comforters.

We like this option best. Fleece makes for a soft and warm liner, and sleeping bags are designed to be in the great outdoors, so they warm up quick and keep you cozy.

Bedding style #3: Home sweet home

You could bring along your favorite sheets, blankets, and comforters. If you do, it’s best to bring along synthetic fill comforters. It’s also important to keep in mind that you’ll be headed into the great outdoors, so your at-home linens may feel different at camp (sometimes damp) depending on the material. Perhaps most important – you’ll be shuttling your bedding up a dirt trail in the woods (and you’ll be playing outside), so your linens could get a stain or two during your campout.  Last, your linens might smell like a campfire for a while!

Hit the showers:

Along with towels and soaps, be sure to pack flip-flops or water shoes for the shared public shower.  Oh, and bring along plenty of quarters, too (50 cents = 2 minutes shower time!)

We’re always happy to assist, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the bedding that you plan to bring along!
