As we’ve mentioned before, there are five, yes FIVE, different freshwater lakes available for fishing in Moran State Park!
That’s right, Cascade Lake, two Twin Lakes, Mountain Lake and Summit Lake are all located in Moran State park – just a short hike or drive from our Orcas Island glamping sites!
If you’re looking to cast the first line of the season, be sure to check out the Bill Yarlott Annual Fishing Derby. This Friends of Moran fishing derby has been a highlight for anglers young and old since 1996.
According to the Friends of Moran,
“This great event began thanks to Bill Yarlott, a fishing enthusiast who was instrumental in keeping Cascade Lake stocked with fish like Kokanee, rainbow trout and bass. Each year we are fortunate enough to have the hard work and passion behind breakfast and measuring fish, thanks to Amy and Phillip Miller. Everyone enjoys Philip’s good morning humor, hard work and hot pancakes!”
Sure sounds like a great time to us. Go ahead, grab your rod ‘n reel and book your Moran State Park glamping site with us so that you can get a jump on the competition with a good night’s rest before opening day for fishing on Cascade Lake!
Remember, lakes in Moran State Park are open to fishing from the 4th Saturday in April to October 31st every year and you’ll need a license to join in the fun!
