We know that you’re probably glamping with us on Orcas Island to get away from it all. That said, we’re compelled to share that the Eastsound is the political epicenter of the San Juan Islands these days as the hottest Mayoral race we’ve seen in years is now underway.
The race for honorary Mayor of Eastsound is the most contested annual battle on the Island. Each of the five 2017 candidates is simply remarkable. Their unique perspectives may shape the future of Eastsound and Orcas Island for generations.
Just in case you’re not familiar, we’re referring to the Orcas Island Children’s House’s annual fundraiser. Candidates are nominated and then literally bought into office. And, yes, the 2017 candidates are four dogs and a cat. It’s a transparent fundraiser, so paying to cast your ballot is totally cool and simply helps the Orcas Island Children’s House accomplish their mission to “to provide a dynamic play-based curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten and life.”
If you’d like to cast your ballot, pony up some cash and go ahead. Voting is open to virtually anyone who can get online or drop by one of the several boxes around Eastsound. There will be plenty of public Q & A and you generally get the chance to interact with the candidates at the Farmer’s Market every Saturday until the voting ends at 2pm, July 1st.
Have a look at the official voter’s guide here and be sure to make an informed decision. Speaking of informed decisions, we’ve dedicated a full page on our website to each of our glamping sites in Moran State Park. Go ahead and choose the perfect glamping site for your Orcas Island adventure and don’t hesitate to ring or write if you have any questions for our team of Adventure Ambassadors!
