Orcas Island made The New York Times’ list of 52 places to visit in 2019. Here’s why we agree that Orcas Island is the destination for you this summer!

The Ferry

In addition to the Orcas Island New York Times list, the ferry to Orcas Island has been voted one of the most beautiful ferry rides in the world. With these accolades, getting to Orcas is half the fun! Wind your way through pristine islands and breathtaking fjords sailing on a Washington State Ferry through the inland waters of the Salish Sea.

Bonus: An Orca whale or a bald eagle could be just around the next corner. Keep your eyes peeled!

The Community

Orcas Island is well-known for its friendly quirky locals! We’re a tight knit community who love to welcome guests into the fold. You’ll be greeted with a warm genuine smile that quickly leads to what feels like a chat with old friends walking into any shop or restaurant.  If you need assistance or recommendations, ask.  Folks around here love sharing their island and must-sees!

The Parks and Preserves

Orcas is aptly named the “Gem of the San Juan Islands.” Home of both Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain Preserve, there’s an abundance of incredible hikes through pristine wilderness. Most hikes offer jaw-dropping views, too!

Hike out to the “Head of the Turtle” and soak-in the beauty of the San Juan Islands as they stretch out before you North to British Columbia. Or, explore our neck of the woods.  Enjoy 35 plus miles of hiking trails in Moran State Park. Embark on all sorts of hikes around 5 freshwater lakes, to waterfalls, or to heart-pumping hikes up Mount Constitution, the highest point in the San Juan Islands.

The Weather

If you ask us Islanders, Orcas Island’s weather is just right!  Orcas gets less rain than its mainland neighbors.  Plus, Orcas Island highs rarely reach above the upper 70’s.  Orcas’ climate is perfect for all sorts of endless outdoor adventuring – especially glamping!
