Glamping Style Tips

You don’t have to be fancy just because our glamping tents are.  The keys to glamping style:  comfort and convenience.  You’ll be in the woods and, at most times, the woods are dirty.  Pack the items that you’re comfortable in, and are comfortable getting dirty.  Convenience is key.  Rather than bringing along specialized apparel for certain activities, pack multipurpose items.  These are the clothes that you’ll feel comfortable wearing in a wide range of settings:   ’round the campfire, on the trail, and hanging in town.

Sturdy Boots

Moran State Park offers miles upon miles of well-maintained trails.  And, the rest of Orcas Island features lots of hiking too.  It’s important to consider the importance of traction when hiking – especially for the little hikers in your party!   A sturdy pair of hiking shoes (or boots) are a must for the whole family.  Whether you’re taking a leisurely walk around one of Moran’s five fresh water lakes, or taking the big climb up Mount Constitution, be sure to pack proper footwear.

Socks

Nobody likes cold toes.  Plus, a boot is only as comfortable as the sock that goes into it! Pack a selection of breathable and cozy socks for your glamping getaway. The perfect sock is one that keeps your feet cool while traversing the trails of Moran State Park while also keeping your toes cozy warm sitting around the campfire.

Glamping Tip:  Be sure to change your socks after activity in cool temps.  Switching socks once you’re done adventuring for the day will help keep your feet warm when the sun and temperatures go down.

Warm layers

The San Juan Islands are known for their beautiful mild summers. You’ll experience temps in the 70’s and evenings in the 50’s most of the time. However, Orcas Island is a coastal environment, so we always suggest making sure that you have plenty of warm layers with you. A breathable hiking shirt, vest, sweater and jacket are all good to have on hand while you’re glamping on Orcas Island. Layers are especially important for those evenings of family fun around the campfire!

Glamping Tip:  Bring some comfy and warm pajamas. We’ll have you all covered for ‘lights out’ with a cozy comforter, wool blanket and hot water bottle to tuck in the sheets.

Hiking Pants

Great hiking pants are key to an extraordinary stroll through the woods. Jeans are fine for short and leisurely walks. However, if climbing Mount Constitution or some of Orcas Island’s other beautiful peaks are on your must-do list, dress for the occasion!
